The last "Indiana Jones" movie, "The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," came out back in 2008. Although people never really thought that another "Indiana Jones" movie was happening, a fifth one is reportedly in the works. What's more, the project will not have "Star Wars" creator George Lucas involved with the story.

In an interview with Collider, screenwriter David Koepp gave an update on Lucas' involvement with the story. When asked if Lucas was going to be contributing anything to the plot of the upcoming film, he said, "He's not, to my knowledge. I've had no contact with him."

This doesn't mean, however, that Lucas is not involved with the project at all. He's still onboard as an executive producer for "Indiana Jones 5."

Though a lot of fans have George Lucas to thank for pop-culture giants like "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones," his recent run with fans hasn't been so great. After the sour reception of his work on the "Star Wars" prequels, fans haven't been eager to see any of his works in the future. Some fans even pointed out their relief with his lack of involvement when it comes to "Indy 5."

Lucas was said to be responsible for the inclusion of aliens in the story of "Crystal Skull," an element which some fans found questionable.

Koepp said that the key to getting the next movie right is finding the right MacGuffin, or the important item that Indy needs to find like the Ark of the Covenant or the Holy Grail.

He also said that he feels that there is a lot of momentum in the story they have now and that he really likes the idea. "I think it's clean and simple and makes a lot of sense, and I feel like the writing is going really well," said Koepp.

"Indiana Jones 5" is scheduled to come out on July 19, 2019.
