'Injustice 2' release date, news: Ed Boon teases surprise guest characters
A lot of fans are waiting for the release of NetherRealm's DC superhero fighting game, "Injustice 2." "Mortal Kombat" ("MK") creator Ed Boon has again taken to Twitter to ask fans which characters they would like to cross over to the DC Universe.
There are actually two polls posted on Boon's account that ask who they want to see in the game. The first poll that was released asking which non-"MK" characters fans would love to see in the game, and the top names are Spawn, Hellboy, The Terminator and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The "Mortal Kombat" games have already brought in famous characters from movie universes; aside from Xenomorphs from "Alien" and the Predator from "Predator," "MK" has had playable characters like Freddy Kreuger ("A Nightmare on Elm Street"), Jason Vorhees ("Friday the Thirteenth"), and Leatherface ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"). There has even been a playable Kratos from the "God of War" franchise exclusive to the Playstation.
So far, the top of the non-"MK" polls have Spawn and Hellboy on top, but it makes sense for the characters to cross over since both are based on the comics, just like the entire DC Universe.
The second poll asked which "MK" characters fans wanted to appear in "Injustice 2," and the top four listed are Subzero, Raiden, Johnny Cage and Jax.
Fans will remember that the DC characters were first introduced to the fighting game genre via "Mortal Kombat vs. DC" which came out in 2008. The game is sort of the "Marvel vs. Capcom" of NetherRealm, and DC heroes in the fighting game genre have been a thing ever since. Having "MK" characters cross over to the game will surely be a callback to the early days of "Mortal Kombat vs. DC."
No official release date has been announced, but fans are expecting "Injustice 2" to be released in early 2017.
