'Insurgent' Movie Release Date: Divergent 2 Will See Mind-Blowing Action Await Fans On March 20, 2015
Unique, mind-blowing and gripping action scenes await fans of "Insurgent" as the sequel movie has finally been green-lighted for release next year. The official release date is March 20, 2015, according to IMDb. That's only five months from now. The production team began filming last May 27, ending on Sept. 6.
In a statement, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said: "We're off to a great start with strong numbers from all regions of the country, urban, suburban and rural alike. We're confident that 'Divergent' is on its way to becoming another important franchise for us, and we have just green-lit the second film, 'Insurgent.'"
Producers Lucy Fisher and Douglas Wick also said "Insurgent" will "take the story and action to another level," adding that they "cannot wait to share the experience with audience around the world."
The film will star Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q and Mekhi Phifer. The story is based on the bestselling book authored by Veronica Roth.
It has been previously announced that Neil Burger, the "Divergent" director, won't be returning for the sequel after turning down the offer. He was replaced by Robert Schwentke of "R.I.P.D" and "The Time Traveler's Wife."
Basing on the previous installments, the third sequel, "Allegiant," is expected for release in March 2016. The first installment of the three-part series grossed $300 million in the box office worldwide. "Insurgent" is expected to exceed this milestone.
