Even though the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are only a few months old, a lot of tech enthusiasts are already focusing on the next-generation iPhone 8, especially since Apple is rumored to be cooking up something special to commemorate the smartphone's 10th anniversary. Now, the latest reports say that the upcoming flagship device will be using a curved, plastic OLED panel for its display.

According to the Korea Herald, all iPhone 8 versions that will be using an OLED screen will be curved.

"The OLED versions of the new iPhone will all have curved screens as Apple ordered only plastic OLED — not glass — from Samsung Display. Samsung is capable of supplying a little less than 100 million units of curved OLED displays to Apple," sources close to the matter told the South Korean publication.

This seemingly confirms reports that Apple is planning to introduce three iPhone 8 models next year. One variant will have an OLED display while the other two versions will bear a more traditional design similar to the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. Accordingly, the one with the OLED screen will be the top-tier model and will be priced higher than previous models. On the other hand, the two other devices will have minor upgrades and will serve as cheaper alternatives.

Reports suggesting that the iPhone 8 will have a curved display have been spinning in the rumor mill for a few months now, but it was previously thought that the display would use an all-glass OLED panel. The Touch ID home button would be integrated into the screen to deliver an almost bezel-less design.

Apart from curved OLED display, sources also revealed that Apple is working on new sensing technology which "enables the phone to respond when users touch any side of the device." However, it was said that Apple has not yet decided whether to adopt this technology for the iPhone 8.

It is important to note that Apple has yet to confirm the iPhone 8 so rumors about its specs should be taken with a grain of salt.

The iPhone 8 is expected to arrive in September 2017.
