'Iron Fist' release date and rumors: Prequel comic to come before the series
Marvel Netflix has just released the solo series for the third Defender, "Luke Cage," and though fans were sure that "Iron Fist" was coming in 2017, they didn't have a specific date until now. Netflix announced the official release date of the kung-fu action series and what's more is that it will have a prequel comic coming out before its TV release.
The clip confirmed that the "Iron Fist" series will land on Netflix on March 17 next year. "Iron Fist" will be the first of two Marvel shows that are slated to come in 2017, the second being "The Defenders."
Netflix has had a two-seasons-per-year trend when it comes to their Marvel Netflix shows. 2015 saw the release of "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones" while in 2016, it released the second season of "Daredevil" and the first season of "Luke Cage."
"The Defenders" will have all the existing heroes in the Netflix universe doing an Avengers-type team-up.
At the New York Comic-Con, a possible prequel comic has been announced for "Iron Fist." The cover showcased an artist's depiction of Finn Jones as Danny Rand. The image also had him with the dragon tattoo on his chest and a fiery right fist.
A lot of fans have been wondering how much of the official "Iron Fist" costume will actually make it to the series, but the comic cover confirmed that there will be a dragon tattoo and the glowing fist of chi. "Luke Cage" paid homage to the original costume from the comic but Mike Colter never had an official superhero outfit.
Many are not sure whether the cover is one of an actual prequel comic or if it is just a variant cover for an upcoming issue of "Iron Fist." This could be confusing because the comic version of the character doesn't exactly look like Finn Jones. However, it could provide great buzz for the series.
"Iron Fist" premieres on Netflix on March 17, 2017.
