Disney is said to be considering a "Tron" reboot, with singer-actor Jared Leto eyed as the lead character.

Leto, who was last seen on the big screen playing the role of Joker in "Suicide Squad," is said to be in talks to play the role of Ares, a new character who has not appeared in the first two films.

The first "Tron" movie was released in 1982, with Jeff Bridges as the lead. The film is about a young man who was absorbed into a computer and found himself in the Grid, a world inside the program. Its futuristic theme and imaginative setting have led to the film getting a cult following. Its sequel aired in 2010, with Bridges reprising his role, starring alongside Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde.

In the past few years, several rumors have emerged about the possibility of a "Tron" remake or sequel. However, none of these bore fruit. According to sources, this project is still in the early planning stages, so there is no assurance yet if the film will push through or if it will be junked.

Leto was also recently cast in "Blade Runner 2049," the sequel to 1982's "Blade Runner," and the film is rumored to be set several decades after the events of the first film.

Vanity Fair reported that Leto's character will be a key one, with Alcon Entertainment co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson describing the role as a "memorable, never before seen character." This statement is not surprising, considering that the film is set in a dystopian future where genetically engineered beings live alongside humans.

Leto will be in good company when he joins "Blade Runner 2049." Other actors associated with the film project are Harrison Ford, who will reprise his role as the lead character Rick Deckard, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Carla Juri, Sylvia Hoeks, Hiam Abbass, David Dastmalchian, Barkhad Abdi, and Lennie James.

"Blade Runner 2" will premiere on Oct. 6.
