'Jessica Jones' season 2 spoilers, plot news: Luke Cage-Jessica romance to still affect show

Luke Cage (Mike Colter) may already have his own show now, but that does not mean he will not play a role in "Jessica Jones," where he was first established in the Netflix Marvel universe.

There are rumors going around that fans will see him in "Jessica Jones" season 2 with showrunner Melissa Rosenberg reportedly looking to bring him back.

However, during her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she simply implied that the Luke Cage persona is now for Cheo Coker, the showrunner of the character's solo series, to play with.

Rosenberg also said that she knew from the start that Luke Cage is a character she was going to hand over. However, she did hint that Jessica and Luke's connection will still play a part in "Jessica Jones" season 2.

"But I also have, in my second season, one of the writers on 'Luke Cage' so in terms of moving forward with what has happened in Luke's story, with season 2 — not that that' as relevant to Jessica's story this season," Rosenberg said.

"But it's all connected, and it's all very important. So Cheo and I haven't had a lot of face time, but we've passed each other in this," she continued.

With that said, it appears that "Jessica Jones" season 2 will still show the repercussions of what the titular character and Luke had in the first season.

But as far as an actual appearance in the new season, it appears that this is not on the table yet. However, fans will for certain see them together in the "Defenders" miniseries, where the two will get together with Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones).

Rosenberg also revealed that work on "Jessica Jones" season 2 is now underway even though the show won't be back on Netflix until 2018.

"It's going to be a long process. It's great because we really have a lot of time to adjust it," the showrunner said.
