'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date rumors: Game goes missing from Japanese Xbox website; rumored for Nintendo NX

"Kingdom Hearts 3," the eleventh installment in the "Kingdom Hearts" series distributed by Disney, was officially confirmed during E3 2013, but it has reportedly been in development since 2006.

Recently, the video game, which was announced to be launched for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, has been at the center of speculations regarding the platforms where players could play it at its release.

Earlier this week, iTechPost reported that "Kingdom Hearts 3" had disappeared from the Japanese Xbox website, sparking rumors among the game's fanbase that the game will be made available exclusively for PlayStation 4 users.

This caused disappointment and dismay among Xbox users, but it wasn't exactly unexpected, as none of the previous chapters of "Kingdom Hearts" had been released for the Xbox.

Since no official explanations have given for the removal of "Kingdom Hearts 3" from the Xbox website, many Xbox users are still hoping that the video game's disappearance was merely a technical glitch.

Meanwhile, Nintendo Insider reports that "Kingdom Hearts 3" has been spotted under the Nintendo NX game list. The NX is the codename for Nintendo's upcoming console. According to Nintendo Insider, EB Games Australia listed "Kingdom Hearts 3" under the Nintendo NX but has since removed the listing.

While many have suggested that the listing was but a simple error, others speculate that the reason Square Enix has kept mum about "Kingdom Hearts 3" is that the upcoming video game is being poised as one of the first games for the Nintendo NX when it drops sometime next year. "Kingdom Hearts 3" was nowhere to be seen at this year's E3, leaving fans to wonder about why Square Enix and Disney opted to keep the game out of the event.

Previous installments of "Kingdom Hearts" have been made available on the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo DS.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" is expected to come out sometime in 2017.
