'Law & Order: SVU' season 18 spoilers: Will Carisi consider quitting his job?
After their lives were put on the line while saving victims in various cases, both Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Dominic Carisi (Peter Scanavino) might be reconsidering their careers in the next episodes of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" season 18.
In the midseason premiere titled "Next Chapter," Carisi was put in danger when a retired cop pointed a gun at him and threatened to kill him while he tried to save a female victim. This could change his point of view regarding his job, according to Scanavino.
"I think Carisi has always realized the dangers of the job, but perhaps this event makes him think about the things he hasn't done in his life," the actor told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview.
Scanavino also revealed that Carisi is determined to live his life in service of others, but he also wants to have his own family someday. This could make him think twice about putting his life in danger because of his job.
But if Carisi might want to shift professions, Sergeant Benson, on the other hand, stayed committed to her job because of the case.
When Carisi was reflecting about his brush with death under the hands of a fellow police, Benson reminded him that the perpetrator turned bad not because he used to be a cop. She pointed out that the suspect has always been bad, but it took a while before his darkness surfaced. Carisi thanked Benson for saving his life and told her that he is hoping that the incident will not prompt her to consider retiring soon. But according to Benson, she was not planning on it anytime in the near future.
Meanwhile, the upcoming episode of "Law & Order: SVU" season 18, titled "Chasing Theo," will tackle a case of a missing child who got lost in his own house.
According to the synopsis from The Futon Critic, "A 6-year-old boy disappears from his bed in the midst of a wild, drug-fueled party thrown by his mother. With a child's life on the line, the case causes Benson to scrutinize her own role as a mother."
The episode will air on NBC on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
