'Legends of Tomorrow' season 2 spoilers, updates: EP talks of time jump, possible love interest for Mick Rory
The cast members and showrunners of "Legends of Tomorrow" have been mum about some of the major details for season 2. Other than the possible battle between members of the Justice Society of America (JSA) and the Legion of Doom (LOD), little has been teased as far as plot is concerned.
However, during The CW's portion at the recent Television Critics Association (TCA) Summer Press Tour, executive producer Marc Guggenheim shared exclusive details to Collider, particularly which direction the show is headed.
It will be recalled that when the maiden season of "Legends of Tomorrow" ended, members of the team were scattered throughout time after defeating Vandal Savage (Casper Crump). When the show returns for its second season, the team will reunite to continue their mission of protecting the timeline against possible threats to history.
According to Guggenheim, last season planted the seeds for the premise of the upcoming installment when the Legends team took it upon themselves to act as time cops.
"Season 2 of Legends is a lot more the way that 'Arrow' and 'The Flash' have always been designed. There is a season-long mythology and a season-long big bad that we're building up to, but unlike Season 1 of Legends, it's not where you're starting," Guggenheim said.
"Legends of Tomorrow" season 2 will pick up six months after the season 1 finale, with Sara Lance/White Canary (Caity Lotz) plotting to avenge her sister's death on "Arrow" season 4. Moreover, while other members of the Legends team are embracing their new role as time cops, Mick Rory/Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) will try to "white-knuckle his way through the whole experience."
Apparently, Mick Rory can't fathom what he's doing as a member of a superhero team, which is probably why the showrunners are thinking of getting Purcell's character a love interest this season.
"This year, we want him to fall in love with someone and be like, 'What are feelings?!' He's so much fun. He's fun to write, and Dominic [Purcell] is obviously really enjoying playing him," the EP said. "I think Rory ends up stealing a lot of the scenes that he's in."
Even Purcell is unsure of his character, which he described as a "funny, pissed off Dirty Harry." He did share why he thinks Mick Rory is such an interesting character during a roundtable interview at the San Diego Comic-Con in July.
"I'm not sure if he's evolving, to tell you the truth," he told Comic Book Resources. "Again, he's just this firebrand, he's impulsive, instinctual, a simmering volcano —you don't know what the f—'s going to happen with the guy. That's what makes him interesting."
"Legends of Tomorrow" season 2 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 8 p.m. on The CW.
