LG G6 release date, specs rumors update: Next iteration to ditch G5 design, expected to arrive April 2017?
LG started out their year with the new LG G5 smartphone. This latest handset from the South Korean electronics giant is quite special due to its all-new modular design. Unfortunately, this move did not go as good as the people would expect. So far, the LG G5 smartphones are not selling that well, and LG may have realized that the model's groundbreaking design look did not pay off.
With this, LG is not expected to make a repeat of what they did with the LG G5. According to the rumors, the handset's next iteration, LG G6, will totally get rid of this modular concept. This could be a nice move for the company as it appears that the consumers are not yet ready to embrace modular handsets at this time. The next LG handset might go back to its classic look before LG's modular experiment, although the company has not talked about the future of this concept after the LG G5's dipping sales. However, LG mentioned earlier that the company still has plans to pursue the modular design with its next products.
As noted by Slash Gear, the LG G5's modular design allows the users to swap out different modules of the handset in order to use its many features. However, some users might think that the need of switching from one module to another is unnecessary. The other features of the LG G5 are not bad either, including 360 camera, VR headset, and Bluetooth-powered wireless headset that costs $200 each.
According to iTech Post, the LG G6 may be the first in the handset series to sport an OLED screen technology. It is also rumored to enable wireless charging, just like the latest Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones. As LG has no official announcement yet regarding the product, any reported specs at the moment are just speculative.
