Los Angeles Clippers trade rumors: Clippers may grant Pierce retirement with Celtics
Already entering the twilight of his career, the Los Angeles Clippers' Paul Pierce has only a very small window to try and win his second NBA championship.
The small forward from the University of Kansas saw limited minutes with the Clippers last year, playing 68 games but only averaging around 18 minutes per night, his lowest in his entire NBA career.
With that, his average dropped to 6.1 points per game, also an all-time low for Pierce. In fact, this is the only time he failed to register double digits in his scoring average.
He is now approaching his 39th birthday and the Clippers' head coach, Doc Rivers, is still open to giving Pierce his well-deserved curtain call.
According to an interview with ESPN, Rivers still wants Pierce to retire as a member of the Boston Celtics.
After all, he played 15 seasons with the Celtics after being drafted 10th overall in the 1998 NBA Draft. During the championships of the 2007-08 season, Pierce was a part of the "Big Three" with Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Pierce also appeared as an NBA All-Star a total of 10 times, all while he was playing with the Celtics.
To put things in perspective, everything Pierce is known for in the league was all done while he was with the Celtics. No one knows this as much as Rivers, who coached Pierce in Boston when they won the championship.
And as talks circulate, it is very possible that Pierce comes back home to the Celtics in order for him to get the proper send off.
In a summer where big names moved from one place to another, thus sparking controversy and anger, this possible move should be met with much respect because Pierce remains a classy competitor who gave his all for the teams he played in.
