'Luke Cage' news, updates: Supporting character Misty Knight confirmed for Netflix's 'The Defenders'
Netflix's "Luke Cage" comes out this week, and a lot of people are excited. "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones" have been massive successes for Marvel TV, and Luke Cage (Mike Colter) will be the third hero joining the ranks of New York's street level heroes. Next year will mark the arrival of the crossover series, "The Defenders," and "Luke Cage" supporting character Misty Knight (played by Simone Missick) will have an appearance as well.
In an interview with The Wrap, Missick confirmed (cautiously) her appearance in next year's superhero mash-up series. She says, "I believe I'm safe to say that I will be on 'The Defenders'... Spoiler alert! If I lose my job because of this interview, sorry! I was supposed to be on 'The Defenders,' until I got fired."
Marvel Television President Jeph Loeb had previously confirmed her appearance in "Luke Cage" and it looks like she will be one of the more prominent non-superhero characters on Marvel TV. Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) has appeared in every Marvel Netflix series, so far and the trailers have also confirmed that she will have an appearance in this one.
Misty Knight in the comics is an New York Police Department (NYPD) detective who lost her arm and was given a bionic one by Tony Stark/Iron Man. She eventually moved away from the police force to start her own detective agency.
Misty Knight in the TV series will be a policewoman who grew up in Harlem, and she will be on the search for Luke after reports of a bulletproof man with super strength pop up. There are no clues yet on whether or not the audience will see her lose her arm in the series.
Aside from Knight, a lot of fans are also expecting Jon Bernthal's Punisher to appear in "The Defenders." Fan reception of him has been positive so far, and they can't wait to see more.
"Luke Cage" is available on Netflix starting Sept 30.
