'Mario Kart 8 for Nintendo Switch' latest leak, update: box art uncovered with the old Nintendo logo
Enthusiasts of "Mario Kart 8," who have been anticipating the game's release on Nintendo Switch, are checking out the latest leak shared by EB Games Australia. The leak gave a sneak peek of the game, plus other titles included for the Nintendo Switch.
EB Games Australia shared a leak of several Nintendo Switch games last Monday, but before the gamers had feasted their eyes on the details, the photo was already taken down. Fortunately, those who caught a glimpse of it first were able to preserve the leak and shared it for others to see.
The leak includes a box art of "Mario Kart 8," alongside other titles for the upcoming console like "Skyrim Special Edition" and "The Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild." Fans of Mario noticed that the boxes seemed to appear smaller than the usual, but still retains the bright red color that reminds them of the classic Nintendo logo.
Contrary to the news, Vooks editor Daniel Vuckovic claimed that the leak did not originate from EB Games Australia, but from him. According to his Twitter post, he was "really bored" so he created the photos with Webdev tools, but was shared on the store's website.
As for the box art, "Mario Kart 8" is expected to include more features that are not shown on Wii U. The alleged box art shows that the "Battle Mode" will be returning to the Nintendo Switch. However, it is still unclear whether the cover art depicts the original "Battle Mode" or a revamp of the classic version.
Some fans expect that "Mario Kart 8" will feature 24 tracks to play, indicating that six added cups are up for grabs. Also, 10 new characters are believed to appear in the game.
However, Nintendo has yet to comment on the link and so everything still has to be taken with a grain of salt. The company is expected to give updates on Jan. 12.
