'Married at First Sight' season 4 news: Premiere date; two cast additions, different locations revealed
A fresh location, different couples, as well as two new experts await fans in this latest season of "Married at First Sight," which premieres this July 26, 9 p.m. on FYI. The new location for season 4 is now Miami, Florida, where this season's selected singles all hail from. The experts who made the selection include Dr. Pepper Shwartz, a sociologist, who will have two new experts joining her in this upcoming run. First is Pastor Calvin Roberson, who is a counselor for couples, and Rachel DeAlto, who is an expert on relationship and communication.
The earlier seasons took place in New York and Atlanta, and so far, only season 1 couples Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner and Jason Carrion and Cortney Hendrix have made their marriages work. The rest have split up after deciding to continue making a go for it after the trial period while most have decided on divorce at the six-week mark.
The show is meant as a social experiment that involves three couples who pledge to marry and go on down the aisle at their first instance of meeting. Each couple spends their first night together and spend their honeymoon the next day. When they get back, they work on their marriage, which is legal and binding, for a period of six weeks, after which each couple decides whether to stay married or get out of it by getting divorced.
The experts create the matches between these total strangers. They also provide the couples with guidance and advise when they need it. The newcomers are replacing sexologist Dr. Logan Levkoff, psychologist Dr. Joseph Cilona, and spiritual adviser Greg Epstein, who all left the show after the third season.
The reality series is based on a Danish show that follows the same format and has gained a following internationally. Filming on the fourth season started around early 2016. More than 30,000 applicants vied for only six spots in this series' run.
It is speculated this early that "Married at First Sight" season 5 will take place in Chicago.
