Days after Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Manny Pacquiao met for the first time during an NBA game in Miami, Florida, last. Jan. 27, the much awaited fight between the two boxing superstars remains up in the air but has moved closer to realization.

If the fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather goes ahead, many commentators said this would be the biggest and most lucrative match in the history of the sport.

In their chance encounter at halftime of the game between the host Miami Heat and the visiting Milwaukee Bucks, Mayweather went over to Pacquiao and spoke to him for a few minutes.

Mayweather declined to comment on the conversation he had with the Filipino boxing legend.

Pacquiao spoke, however, hinting that he and Mayweather planned to directly negotiate the terms of their fight. Asked what took place after they shook hands and spoke for a few minutes at the American Airlines Arena, Pacquiao said, "he gave his number to me and said we will communicate with each other."

After their public meeting, ESPN reported that the two boxers met in private for a little more than an hour and discussed the terms of their proposed fight which many people – including boxing promoter Bob Arum – believe would take place on May 2.

Michael Koncz, Pacquiao's adviser, was present during the meeting which reportedly took place at Pacquiao's hotel suite in Miami after Mayweather came over. Koncz said the two fighters "sat eye to eye, and it was a long serious meeting. You could tell by their body language that this was very positive. "

ESPN said the remaining stumbling block is that Time Warner/HBO has Pacquiao on contract and they have not made a deal for a pay-per-view telecast with CBS/Showtime where Mayweather has a contract.

Meanwhile, Mayweather continued to play down speculation of the fight happening and even discredited a statement made by Arum that a date would be announced within a few days. Mayweather made the statement on his official Shots account by posting a photo of his holiday in Bermuda and titled it "They continue to lie about making the fight... I'm just going to continue to travel and explore the world on my private jet."
