The initial release date of the third installment of the "Maze Runner" trilogy has been pushed a year further due to the main actor's absence in the film production.

It was previously reported by InfoTel News that Dylan O'Brien, the actor who plays the main character, Thomas, in the "Maze Runner" film series, got into a severe accident while filming for the third movie of the franchise, "The Death Cure," in March of this year.

According to the report, O'Brien had his accident while doing an action sequence that involved moving vehicles. The accident caused O'Brien to have fractures on his cheekbone or his orbital socket, for which the actor was hospitalized and needed time to recover completely before going back to filming.

Deadline reports that productions for "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" will finally resume this coming February 2017. Production was initially set to resume in May, but the actor needed more time to heal from his injuries.

Because of the delay in production schedules, the release date of the film will also be delayed by a year. The original release date was February of 2017, which is now moved to January 2018.

Meanwhile, there is still no official news about the plot of "Maze Runner: The Death Cure." However, like the previous films, will the plot for the third film be entirely different than the book?

According to Moviepilot, "The Death Cure" has turned into a rescue mission based on the events that transpired in the previous film. In "The Scorch Trials," Minho (Ki Hong Lee) was taken by WCKD, which did not happen in the book. Thomas rescuing Minho is anticipated to be a part of the major plot points in the upcoming "Maze Runner" film.

Aside from this, Thomas will reportedly be determined to find a cure for the Flare after finding out that none of them are really immune from the virus.

"Maze Runner: The Death Cure" is expected to debut on Jan. 12, 2018.
