McLaren Super Series release date, specs news: 2nd-gen supercar teased before debut at Geneva Motor Show

McLaren Automotive announced earlier this month that the second-generation Super Series will make its debut at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show on March 7. Leading up to its unveiling, the British automaker has been providing teasers for car enthusiasts who are early anticipating the supercar's arrival.

This week, McLaren released a close-up image of the upcoming supercar's wing and provided details about its aerodynamic performance.

"The second-generation McLaren Super Series will be as aerodynamically impressive as it is visually beautiful," teased Mark Vinnels, executive director of Product Development for McLaren.

The new Super Series will be equipped with a range of advanced aerodynamic technologies. It is said to deliver maximum generated downforce that is 50 percent greater than the McLaren 650S and also features 15 percent improvement when it comes to cooling efficiency. Moreover, the supercar's sculpted design combined with these technologies deliver optimal aerodynamic efficiency.

The second-generation supercar features an active wing that extends over the full width of the rear. It moves upward to optimize aerodynamic efficiency and also deploys to extreme angles as an airbrake. The forthcoming Super Series also comes with a new dihedral door design that showcases the automaker's engineering advancements. Air ducts have been integrated within the door structure to also facilitate engine cooling and create increased downforce.

Previously, McLaren revealed that the new Super Series will be built using a carbon fiber Monocage II body structure that is immensely strong and durable yet very lightweight. This makes the supercar 18 kilograms lighter than the McLaren 650S.

The new chassis features a wider cabin entrance for better access and a lower center of gravity that contributes to a more dynamic performance. Customers can opt for the "Visible Monocage" option that will expose the carbon-fiber structure inside the A-pillar.

More technical specifications will be revealed during the supercar's official debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Pricing will be confirmed after the second-generation Super Series' unveiling.
