Microsoft Surface Phone release date: Evan Blass shares renders of flagship, says device is 'much more than just a concept'

In the midst of the reports that Microsoft has abandoned the long-rumored Surface Phone, leaks about the flagship phone were provided by trusted tech insider Evan Blass.

He shared on Twitter a bunch of renders showing the device and teased one of the device's specification saying, "Powered by a laptop-class Intel processor, would this have blown your mind?"

He said in the following tweet that it is "much more than just a concept" when a user said that the smartphone did not leave Microsoft's test beds. Blass then advised him to "stay tuned" suggesting that the Microsoft Surface Phone might see the light of day after all despite the growing doubts that it would not.

The mobile reporter then shared another set of images that appear to be marketing paraphernalia, showing the Microsoft Surface Phone once again.

It was first rumored that the Redmond tech giant's flagship device will be released in spring next year as Microsoft decided to wait for the Redstone 2 update for Windows 10, which they will use in building the device.

However, when the company's launch event was announced, the mobile world became unsure of the fate of the Microsoft Surface Phone.

Microsoft expert Mary Jo Foley, who reported on the possible spring 2017 release for the handset, said last month that there is no longer an assurance of the device's launch.

"If and when anything like a Surface Phone ends up materializing, it will likely be late 2017 or maybe even not until 2018, my contacts have said recently," Foley wrote.

However, the photos and information provided by Blass suggest that Microsoft has not given up on the Microsoft Surface Phone just yet.

The question now is when the device will actually be made official by the software giant, who has been particularly silent with regards to its plans in the mobile department.
