Microsoft Surface Phone release date, news: no MWC 2017 reveal expected
There were rumors going around that the Microsoft Surface Phone will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 since the Redmond-based tech giant will be there. However, this might not be the case.
According to Softpedia, it is highly unlikely for the company to unveil the Microsoft Surface Phone as the target release for the smartphone is still at fall 2017.
MWC is actually a go-to event when it comes to smartphone launches, but it is believed that the purported Surface Phone is still not ready.
Since the MWC is happening early next year, this makes it more unlikely for the Microsoft Surface Phone to turn up this early.
While Microsoft will be part of the event, it is expected that it will be there for the unveiling of a new Windows Phone from HP, which released not too long ago the Windows 10 heavyweight, the HP Elite X3.
It is also believed that the tech giant could also talk about the Windows 10 Creators Update, which introduces improvements for mobile devices.
As for the Microsoft Surface Phone, the device is rumored to still be in the cards but will not arrive sooner than fans expect. There were even rumors that the flagship will not see the light of day until early 2018.
Microsoft is reportedly waiting on the Redstone 3 update for the Windows 10, which comes with a tweak that will allow Windows Phones to run desktop applications.
This was the primary limitation that the Continuum had, which led to many finding alternatives to be able to do run desktop apps. It even dragged the success of the HP Elite X3 down a bit, which is why Microsoft is keen on making it happen in the Surface Phone.
The flagship is also expected to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which will help make this x86 emulation happen.
