Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, news & update: No laplet expected for today; device to come out early 2017 instead
The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will not be part of Microsoft's launch event later today as the company focuses on its first venture into the desktop computer space.
The laplet is expected to be pushed to early 2017 for a number of reasons. For this event, however, Microsoft will not go through with a Surface Pro love.
With that said, instead of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, the Redmond-based tech firm will come out with an updated version of the Microsoft Surface Pro, which was released around this time last year.
This new version has a faster processor and additional features, which should be enough to tide fans over the longer wait for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.
The next-generation laplet is reportedly being delayed as Microsoft decided to wait for the Redstone 2 update for the Windows 10, which should allow them to add more features to the hybrid.
The Redstone 2 may be talked about at the launch event, which suggests that fans might learn a thing or two about their plans for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.
In addition, the device was also allegedly delayed so that Microsoft can make use of the all-new Intel Kabylake processor. If the two-in-one device had an October deadline, the chances are it might not be able to use Intel's seventh-gen chipset.
Waiting it out was definitely the way to go for Microsoft as it would mean that they will be able to use the more powerful and advanced processor for their Surface Pro flagship.
Not only will this allow for greater and faster performance across the board, it will also put Microsoft ahead of the pack with the Surface Pro 5 likely among the pioneer devices with Intel Kaby Lake.
An early 2017 release should also pit the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 directly against the iPad Pro 2, which is expected to be released around that time as well.
The Microsoft Event will take place today, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. ET or 7 a.m. PT.
