Minnesota Vikings trade rumors: Vikings sign Long, place Smith on IR
Still unbeaten this season, the Minnesota Vikings are still trying to make moves to improve the team and move forward in 2016.
The Vikings reportedly signed offensive tackle Jake Long to help the team this season, placing some injured players' futures up in the air.
Right tackle Andre Smith has been placed on the injured reserve and with the team constantly looking at new names to take the field, it is possible that Smith could be out of the Vikings' rotation.
Smith injured his triceps against the New York Giants and will be out for a considerable amount of time.
At 29 years old, Smith was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round in 2009 and recently signed a one-year, $3.5-million deal with the Vikings.
He has incentives guaranteed in the contract but with him not playing possibly the entire season, a trade could be in effect for the Vikings to get some back for Smith.
In order to help cover some injuries, Long was signed to a one-year contract. Questioned due to his injury woes, Long now believes he is back in his prime and is 100 percent certain that he will be on the field.
As tweeted by Sirius XM, Long claimed: "Been working out everyday and feeling strong. This is the healthiest I've felt in a very long time. Knee feels great."
He was a former number 1 overall pick in the 2008 draft by the Miami Dolphins. Despite having lofty expectations, he was limited due to injuries, with the multiple ACL tears as his biggest burden during his career.
Now, he will have a chance to make a statement as the Vikings have shown confidence in him, but he must stay healthy or risk getting shopped over again to another team or possibly waived.
