Moto X 2017 release date, specs, news: video, renders leaked; reveal what is set to change
A 360-degree render, in addition to a bunch of render images based on factory drawings of what is believed to be the Motorola Moto X 2017, was released online by reliable tech insider, OnLeaks.
Based on the leaks, the Moto X 2017 will share the same design language as the current Motorola Moto Z. There will be some modifications that will make it the midrange device out of the two.
First and foremost, the display will be much smaller than that of its sibling. It is only at 5.2 inches. The Moto Z has a slightly bigger 5.5-inch screen.
Another one of the glaring changes is that the pogo pins on the back of the device are no more. This means that unlike in the Moto Z, the MotoMods accessories will not be a thing in the Moto X 2017.
The renders also show that the next-generation Moto X will don a fingerprint sensor on the front. Oddly enough, Motorola is opting for a microUSB port instead of the USB-C port, which latest mobile releases have.
Another mobile innovation that the Moto X 2017 will miss out on is the 2.5D glass. Lenovo is keeping the 3.5mm headphone jack intact though.
On the camera department, the handset will not have a dual camera setup. Lenovo is also skipping on the front-facing stereo speakers for the Moto X 2017.
In terms of its overall appearance, the Moto X 2017 is quite a bulky device. The size bezels are not the thinnest. Lenovo also opted for a much thicker build at 8.4 mm, which Android Authority believes the company can use to slide a large battery.
The Moto X 2017 is expected to be one of the many new releases to see the light of day at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017, set to be held in Barcelona on Thursday, Jan. 5, to Sunday, Jan. 8.
