It seems like Motorola is about to come out with a new version of Moto X Play, if rumors are to be believed.

Several reports claim that the Illinois-based telecommunications company is developing the next-generation Moto X smartphone based on the images of the device that have been leaked online. Although the images did not mention the model of the upcoming product, speculations claim that it may be the next Moto X device. It could even be the 2017 version of the company's midrange Moto X Play variant.

Tech 2 stated in their report that the images of the rumored new Moto smartphone products will get the same round dual-camera at the back, which is also seen in the Moto Z, Z Force and Z Play devices. Yet, it also appears to have an all-metal finish, just like the mobile manufacturer's recently launched Moto M. The device also seems to be at least 5.5-inch big.

The current model of Moto X Play comes with a 5.5-inch high-definition (HD) display screen, Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 chipset, octa-core (4x1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.0 GHz Cortex-A53) processor with Adreno 405 graphics processing unit (GPU). It also has a 21-megapixel (MP) primary camera in the rear with dual-LED flash and 5MP primary camera for selfie shots.

The Moto X Play is also known for having a water-repellant casing, which means that it can withstand accidental water spills and splashes. It also has a 30-hour battery life.

The device runs using the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop upon release back in 2015, but Motorola already rolled out its Android 7.0 Nougat update for Moto X Play, as well as its other devices such as the fourth-generation Moto G Play, the third-generation Moto X Pure Edition, Moto X Style, Moto X Force, the Droid Turbo 2, Droid Maxx 2, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Play, Moto Z Play Droid, as well as the Nexus 6 that the company created for Google.
