Pablo Escobar's (Wagner Moura) life has ended with the release of the second season of "Narcos."

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Eric Newman said people would feel conflicted due to the infamous drug kingpin's death. Some people would be rooting for it, while others would be rooting for Pablo to somehow turn history on its head and survive, if only in a fictional world.

And "Narcos" season 2 did achieve something akin to Newman's vision when it showed Pablo interacting with his family via walkie-talkie in the hours counting down to the rooftop chase that ultimately led to his death.

The scene itself was handled pretty vaguely, never truly showing who shot the fatal bullet that killed him, just like how it was in real life.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Newman acknowledged the varying speculations regarding Pablo's death but said that they based their data on what the people they talked to have said. He further shared that the death scene was shot on the roof adjacent to the one where the real Pablo Escobar was shot. The actual roof has already been built over, but they shot the haunting scene in the same building.

Pablo's death has been announced long before the second season rolled out, so it came as no surprise to the viewers as well as to Moura, who plays the Colombian drug lord.

In an interview with Time, Moura shared that he found out his character's fate at the end of the first season. He described the second season as "more dramatic and less epic" compared to the first. He also said that while he dealt with the stronger sides of Pablo in the first season, the second season was all about portraying the infamous drug kingpin in his weakest moments.

"The first season tries to explain to people how the drug trade works," Moura said. "Now in the second season, it's more about the characters, about the guy losing his power, losing his money and losing his family."

All ten episodes of "Narcos" season 2 are now available to watch on Netflix.
