NBA trade rumors 2017: The Orlando Magic offers Nikola Vucevic a first-round pick for Heat guard Goran Dragic

The Miami Heat might have put their entire team on the trade market, but one of their players has been receiving more attention than the rest, and it's not really surprising. Goran Dragic's name has been mentioned in several trade rumors already since last month, and it seems the Heat's instate rival has renewed their interest in acquiring the combo guard.

ESPN's Marc Stein has reported that the Orlando Magic has offered center Nikola Vucevic and a future first-round draft pick for Dragic. However, the Heat wasn't interested in the offer because they already have Hassan Whiteside starting at center.

The Magic's frontcourt is so crowded this season with Vucevic, Aaron Gordon, Serge Ibaka, and Bismack Biyombo vying for minutes. Jeff Green also plays power forward occasional, so unloading one of their big men actually makes sense. Vucevic played badly at the start of the season, and he was relegated to the bench with Biyombo starting over him. However, he has performed much better since and he has regained his spot in the starting lineup.

Dragic has been playing great this year, but is he worth Vucevic plus a first-round draft pick? It should be noted that Dragic isn't getting any younger. He's already 30-years old. And first-round draft picks are assets that teams shouldn't just throw around in deals. The Magic are currently out of the playoff race, so losing a lottery pick can prove costly for the franchise.

NBC Sports' Dan Feldman has also noted that the Magic's goals seem shortsighted.

"Orlando should focus on building for future seasons, which means not swapping first-round picks for veterans. There will probably be better avenues for a point guard upgrade offseason. If not, the Magic can always get a solid point guard for one of its bigs and a first-rounder. There should be no rush to pursue a deal like that now, because a late playoff push is impractical," he said in his piece about the trade rumor.

Feldman actually makes a good point. The Heat may have rejected the Magic's offer, but contenders will probably give their front office a call with the trade deadline fast approaching.
