'NCIS' season 14 spoilers, news: New plot details revealed, but series getting crowded? Cote de Pablo shares why she left series
Several new cast members were brought in to be part of "NCIS" season 14 following Michael Weatherly's departure from the series. However, has this move made the procedural crime series a tad crowded?
When Weatherly, who played Special Agent Tony DiNozzo on the series, left, "Grey's Anatomy" star Wilmer Valderrama was tapped by "NCIS" to play the role of Special Agent Nick Torres. British actor Duane Henry, who was brought in toward the end of season 13 as MI6 Officer Clayton Reeves, was subsequently promoted to series regular, and finally, "Blue Bloods" actress Jennifer Esposito was cast as Special Agent Alex Quinn.
With the arrival of these three new characters, many feel the series has gotten crowded. Nevertheless, Emily Wickersham, who plays Agent Eleanor Bishop, is only too happy welcome the three, especially Esposito, into the fold.
According to TV Line's report, up until recently, Wickersham is the only female cast member who shoots "field" scenes in the 'big orange room' since Pauley Perrette, who plays Abby Sciuto, spends most of the time filming in the laboratory.
"To have another girl around every day is fantastic," Wickersham told the website. "The squad room dynamics are totally different. It's awesome."
Esposito and Valderrama will be seen when season 14 kicks off. Henry, on the other hand, will make a regular appearance from the fifth episode onwards.
Meanwhile, E! News caught up with Valderrama and other cast members during the CBS, The CW, and Showtime Television Critics Association (TCA) party a few weeks back. The media outlet asked Valderrama to tease the new season via hashtags, to which the actor replied, "#Complicated, #Unpredictable, #Pregnant, #Love Triangles." Check out the video of the interview below.
Interesting words to describe the upcoming season, those are, leaving some to wonder who would get pregnant and get embroiled in a love triangle. Those angles are worth anticipating when the series returns in September.
In related news, Cote de Pablo, who played Ziva Davis on the series, finally revealed the reason why she left in the early days of "NCIS" season 11. According to the actress, she chose not to stay "because of political things and the scripts not being good enough." She added that she worked eight years to craft the character, but when she felt it wasn't getting the respect it deserved, "all the money in the world couldn't buy [me]."
"They were going to send her back to Israel and make her an unfortunate, miserable woman," she said when she appeared before an audience at Babson College. "I said well what do I leave all the women who have watched and followed the show? I didn't think it was fair. And so I said, 'Until someone can really write something fantastic for her, I won't come back.'"
"NCIS" season 14 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
