'New Girl' season 6 episode 1 spoilers, plot news: Nick comes home and the lofties go house-hunting

"New Girl" has hit its sixth season and everybody's gearing to move forward. But between house-hunting, long distance relationships and lingering old feelings, this year may not turn out to be so swell after all for Jess the Mess (Zooey Deschanel) and her loftmates.

Newlyweds Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece (Hannah Simone) were looking to buy a house but made the mistake of hiring Aly's (Nasim Pedrad) sister as their real estate agent. As shown in the sneak peek below, the not-so-bright Leslie (Ayden Mayeri) found a house that was to their liking except it was not actually for sale.

This prompted Jess to step up and offer herself as the couple's new real estate agent. Although she intended to help out, it eventually became clear that she was only doing this to distract herself from thoughts of her loftmate and ex-flame Nick (Jake Johnson), for whom she was still harboring feelings. Apparently, she had also been taking up one odd hobby after another over the summer for the same reason.

But no sooner had Jess insisted to Cece that not everything was about Nick when Jess found herself face to face with the man in question.

Nick had returned from spending some time with his girlfriend, Reagan (Megan Fox), in New Orleans. Nick had also finally managed to finish his first book while he was there. The fact that he dedicated it to Jess gave fans hope that the two of them could get back together this season.

Meanwhile, Winston (Lamorne Morris) didn't want to mess things up with his and Aly's long distance relationship. It was for this reason that he asked Leslie to be his real estate agent instead of firing her like what he had offered to do for Schmidt and Cece.

Leslie ended up selling him a boat, and Winston eventually came clean to Aly about his real thoughts about her sister. Aly told him that in order to make their relationship work, they would have to be honest with each other; also, that she knew her sister could really be a little slow.

The episode directed by actress Zooey Deschanel concluded with the familiar scene of the loftmates hanging out together in front of the fireplace they discovered after ripping off a wall in the fixer-upper that Schmidt and Cece ended up buying.

According to TV Guide, the next episode of "New Girl" season 6 will see Jess and Cece making a bet with Schmidt regarding the Presidential elections, while Winston and Nick talk about making love while on the phone.
