'New Horizon: Zero Dawn' trailer, latest news: Watch the trailer's PS4 version; Extra features, maps revealed!
The new trailer of "New Horizon: Zero" highlights how the title has come in full development after having a few challenges. The PlayStation 4 (PS4) exclusive game's trailer video is titled "Creating a New World."
"We're known for our first-person shooter series, Killzone. Storytelling in an open world in an RPG is not something that we hadn't done before," said Guerrilla managing director Hermen Hulst. "But I think all of us, we really welcome it as a wonderful opportunity to create something that's so fresh, so new--it's a wonderful challenge for us."
The video shows the members of the development team talking about the difficulties, as well as the opportunities, with the transition from Killzone series to the open-world gameplay of "New Horizon."
Game art director Jan-Bart Van Beek appears in the video as well to mention about the title's several "eco-topes," which are described as specific locations in the title's environment. Players will be able to explore the different environments and get to see snow-covered mountains, jungles, ruins, forests, deserts and more.
The game also offers a day and night atmosphere, aside from the changes of weather, which would definitely have an impact on the overall gameplay. For instance, players will have a difficult time navigating their surroundings when the rain falls too hard.
"New Horizon: Zero" is set to release on February 28, 2017 for PS4 and is one of the titles that will have an improved version through the PS4 Pro. It was announced earlier that the game boasts extra features such as improved shadow maps, enhanced colors, among others.
As for those asking whether the Killzone franchise will eventually be ditched by Guerilla Games, managing director Hermen Hulst said the Killzone is the "very key and core to Guerilla."
"We have a lot of love for the franchise. In a way it's conclusive, but at the same time we'll leave everything open for the future. Who am I to say we'll never do anything? There's too much in it to ever make any kind of definite statements on [the future of Killzone]," Hulst explained.
