New York Knicks trade rumors 2016: Eyeing a veteran to add to bench depth
As teams look for pieces to fill in the final spots on the roster, it seems like the New York Knicks are eyeing a veteran who also has All-Star experience.
According to 24/7 Sports, there is great interest between Caron Butler and the Knicks, and a potential move for the 14-year veteran could be in the works.
A reliable source in Anthony Donahue, who is the host of The Knicks Blog Podcast, tweeted that Butler was interested in what the Knicks have at the moment and that he was impressed with the moves that the Knicks made so far in the summer.
What Butler was probably pertaining to are the multiple deals the Knicks have made in order to have one of the better starting lineups on paper.
Already with Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis, the Knicks tapped into the Chicago Bulls roster to acquire Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose.
Furthermore, they were also able to get Courtney Lee who is known for this "3 and D" mentality to perfectly slot him in the shooting guard position.
Now, the Knicks are looking for cheaper pieces to fill in the bench positions, and veterans like Butler make for great players as they can provide leadership on and off the floor thanks to their experience on the floor.
At 36 years old, Butler has bounced around in different teams, spending most of his time with the Washington Wizards.
He was an All-Star twice from the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.
In his career, he averages 14.1 points per game while shooting around 43 percent from the field. He is also a reliable shooter from beyond the arc as he makes 35 percent of his shots from three.
Last year, Butler played a small role for the Sacramento Kings as he played 17 games and averaged only 3.7 points per game.
Despite the poor numbers, fans should expect Butler to give a lot for a team wanting to win as he will lead in any way he can.
