NFL Week 5 News, Rumors, Games List, Schedule: Victory predicted for 7 of 10 teams with winning records
As the 2014 NFL season enters Week 5, it is noteworthy that less than a third of the teams in the league have a winning record.
In Week 4, the top-rated teams only had a slight edge.
The following are previews for every game in Week 5.
Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers
The Vikings face trouble against the resurgent Packers whose offense finally got going last week. Their confidence is boosted further as the team returns home. Moreover, the Vikings' Teddy Bridgewater is a game-time decision.
Prediction: Green Bay
Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers
The Panthers have lost back-to-back games by 46 combined points, showing that they are not the same team that won the NFC South in 2013. On the other hand, the Bears have been inconsistent, winning on the road twice, but losing both home games. Carolina's offense is questionable while Chicago enjoys an advantage in having more playmakers, giving them the edge.
Prediction: Chicago
Cleveland Browns at Tennessee Titans
Although the Browns have a 1-2 record, their losses were decided on last-second field goals. On the other hand, the Titans have lost each of their last three games by at least 16 points. They face an upset at home.
Prediction: Cleveland
St. Louis Rams at Philadelphia Eagles
St. Louis faces big trouble in Philadelphia, which ranks as the No.3 scoring offense in the league. The Eagles have been successful despite the struggles of LeSean McCoy. But the running back could be due for a breakout game against the Rams which rank the 30th in run defense.
Prediction: Philadelphia
Atlanta Falcons at New York Giants
New York finally showed its offensive clout after playing unimpressive games in the first two weeks of the season. The Giants are expected to pour in the points against the Falcons whose star Matt Ryan continues to struggle on the road. He could have trouble against New York's improving pass defense.
Prediction: New York
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New Orleans Saints
Despite suffering a terrible defeat on the road, the Saints are highly favored to beat the lowly Buccaneers. New Orleans still has the most potent offenses in the league, and is expected to bounce back at home against the worst team in the NFC South.
Prediction: New Orleans
Houston Texans at Dallas Cowboys
These two teams from Texas currently have the same record, but Dallas possesses the more talented roster. Moreover, Houston's Arian Foster at running back and Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback are pretty much banged up after their last game and could have difficulty in moving the ball. Dallas' DeMarco Murray, considered as the No.1 rusher in 2014, will have little trouble in smashing Houston's defences, which is one of the league's worst.
Prediction: Dallas
Buffalo Bills at Detroit Lions
The Bills have been sluggish for the last two weeks and don't look like a playoff contender this year. Nevertheless, they are still favored over the Lions. One of the reasons for this is that they will get
a boost at quarterback with Kyle Orton taking over for EJ Manuel. Also, Detroit's offense might not click as Calvin Johnson is still nursing an ankle injury.
Prediction: Buffalo
Baltimore Ravens at Indianapolis Colts
Although they are on a winning streak for the last two weeks, Andrew Luck and the rest of the Colts face trouble against the defensive powerhouse Ravens, who are far different from the struggling teams they earlier defeated. Baltimore has allowed just over 12 points per game in the last three weeks. This match could be a cliffhanger, one that could be decided by a field goal or less.
Prediction: Baltimore
Pittsburgh Steelers at Jacksonville Jaguars
With an unenviable 0-4 mark, the Jaguars are in for another sound thrashing at the hands of the Steelers. Jacksonville, the worst team in the league, has loss all their games by more than 17 points. They lost by 27 points even in their one home game.
Prediction: Pittsburgh
Arizona Cardinals at Denver Broncos
Although the Cardinals have won back to back games with Drew Stanton at quarterback, the team faces trouble in Denver. Stanton completed less than 50 percent of his passes in a win over the Giants, and he was only slightly more accurate in Arizona's next victory. The Cardinals' offense could have trouble keeping pace with Peyton Manning and the Broncos.
Prediction: Denver
Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers
Despite a 1-2 start this season, the 49ers remain one of the top teams in the league. They have excellent defense and potent speedy offense as well. The Chiefs have won two straight games but their winning streak could end against a team that have the manpower to blunt their rushing attack.
Prediction: San Francisco
New York Jets at San Diego Chargers
The Jets are one of this season's struggling teams. Although having problems at quarterback, Geno Smith will continue to start. The Chargers look like AFC championship contender.
Prediction: San Diego
Cincinnati Bengals at New England Patriots
Facing the Bengals, the Patriots will be the underdogs at home. Nevertheless, Tom Brady and his boys are still the best team in the AFC East and are expected by many to win at home. Incidentally, for the last five years, New England has lost just three games at Gillette Stadium.
Prediction: New England
Seattle Seahawks at Washington Redskins
The defending Super Bowl champs Seahawks are unlikely to face stiff resistance from the Redskins, a team that has allowed 82 points in their last two games. Although Washington rained down points against two of the league's worst defensive teams, Kirk Cousins will have big trouble against Seattle's defense.
Prediction: Seattle
