Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder Split News: Actress Switching From Vampire Diaries to The Originals?
In a stunning rumored development, Nina Dobrev of 'The Vampire Diaries" is crossing over into "The Originals," another hit TV series which is a spinoff from the Vampire Diaries.
What is even more stunning is the apparent reason behind the move – her breakup with former real-life boyfriend and co-star Ian Somerhalder, who plays the part of Damon Salvatore.
Playing the part of Elena Gilbert in "Vampire Diaries 6," which premieres on Oct. 2, Dobrev will take on the role of the doppelganger, or Elena's look-alike, Tatia in Season 2 of "The Originals," which starts airing on Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
As Tatia, Dobrev will appear during a flashback in the Nov. 3 airing of "The Originals." Fans should recognize Tatia who appeared in Season 3 of "The Vampire Diaries." It was then that the Mikaelson brothers and the Salvatore brothers were brought together.
Show producer Julie Plec explains why Tatia is making a reappearance. "There's a lot of people that could cross over, and when we plan our crossovers, we like to think of the most clever way to integrate The Vampire Diaries mythology into The Originals mythology," she says.
"There was a character's name introduced a long time ago in Season 3 in association with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and how they became vampires and a girl that they both loved a long time ago who was the original doppelganger, Tatia. So Nina Dobrev will be visiting The Originals for a nice little storyline in our fifth episode which airs Nov. 3," Plec says.
Fans have long suspected that Dobrev will quit the Vampire Diaries and move on to another hit TV drama series after her much publicized relationship with Somerhalder suddenly went awry.
In various Internet rumors it has been said that following their breakup, the former lovers don't want to see each other anymore on the set and elsewhere. The mounting tension between the two is affecting everyone on the show, reports have said, thus spawning talk of the end of the Vampire Diaries series, Season 6 of which premiered on Sept. 25.
Studio insiders say "Vampire Diaries 6" could be the last.
They say Elena could end up in the arms of Stefan, Damon's affable brother. This possible development at the end of Season 6, the insiders say, could mean the end of The Vampire Diaries.
Why would the producers of the show do that when there seems to be so much more stories to tell on the lives of the vampires? The insiders say one possible answer is the fact that Dobrev, Somerhalder and the rest of the cast are advancing in age and could find better roles to play in other television shows.
This was unimaginable when the Vampire Diaries was still a new TV series, and with Dobrev and Somerhalder still a pair of lovebirds. The two dated for years before finally calling it quits in 2013.
At first, despite their differences, the two actors tried to be amicable to each other, even looking like they were the best of friends.
The two were still on speaking terms until the time when Somerhalder began dating Twilight actress Nikki Reed, who was Dobrev's friend at one time. Reed has been making appearances on The Vampire Diaries set, which further irritates Dobrev.
Dobrev has moved on in her relationship with Somerhalder and has been linked to Hollywood hunks such as Liam Hemsworth and Orlando Bloom, according to reports in The Inquisitr. She has also been linked to Dancing with the Stars' Derek Hough.
