'Nintendo NX' news and updates: Nintendo learns from Wii launch mistakes; will do better for NX

Nintendo is apparently learning important lessons from its previous next-generation console launches. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime assures fans that the Japanese gaming giant will do "a better job" at messaging that it did with Wii U. In his recent interview, the executive hints at overhauling their communication strategy to effectively position the product.

"One of the things that we have to do better when we launch the NX—we have to do a better job communicating the positioning for the product. We have to do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience," said Fils-Aime said in an interview with AListDaily.

The case of Nintendo's Wii U offers a rich learning experience in terms of how the console's specific but non-traditional tablet-like attractions prove to be a hard-sell in a market long dominated by other gaming giants like Sony's PlayStation and Microsoft's Xbox gaming devices.

As reported by Polygon, selling the Wii U in 2012 was an uphill struggle. Similarly, the company could face the same difficulty with Nintendo NX whose unique features are yet to be fully grasped and appreciated by consumers. However, details over the NX's unique features are still under wraps in the lead-up to their upcoming tech reveal around September.

Meanwhile, according to Express UK, Nintendo's NX announcement will reportedly take place around the same time when Sony unveils its PlayStation 4 NEO and Slim consoles at an event in New York on Sept. 7. Reports suggest that the upcoming console will borrow Wii's motion control support and vibration force feedback.

Moreover, NX will be a portable gaming device with removable controllers that can also be hooked to the base unit to enjoy conventional gaming experience. Also, "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will reportedly accompany NX's debut followed by the release of new games six months later including a new Pokemon and Mario games.
