Nintendo NX release date, update: Reddit sources reveal price, demo release date, new Mario game

The moderators of the Nintendo NX subreddit revealed some exciting new details about the upcoming gaming console.

Over the weekend, the moderating team of /r/NintendoNX verified a load of new information about the NX from an unidentified source who reportedly works "for a very large retailer" and who is supposedly in a position to have access to the kind of information he/she shared with the Redditors. Among the many details revealed by this unknown source were the Nintendo NX's price, marketing strategy, packaging, bundle, demo release date, features, specs and the games included at the launch.

The data dump was significant given that the moderators rarely post anything without sufficient proof and extensive verification.

But it appears that they were satisfied with the information's validity. "Well, for the first time in a very long time, someone has met our requirements and provided what we feel to be sufficient proof," they wrote.

"Exact details of what was provided will not be released," they added. "We take protecting the identity of our sources very seriously. Our source has added the disclaimer that this is all initial information and subject to change as time goes on," they continued.

Because of this alleged leak, Nintendo fans now know that the Nintendo NX games will be on cartridges and that there may be 4K streaming of such content as Netflix. The informant also revealed that 1080p and 60 fps are being teased for gameplay on the console portion.

The Nintendo NX will reportedly launch with at least four new games, including a Mario one. There will supposedly be strong co-branding with Mario, with posters for the NX bearing the new Mario launch title.

The Reddit source also disclosed that demo units should arrive in stores by February and that the base price point of the Nintendo NX may be $299.99. There will reportedly be a bundle option for $399.99.

Tech Radar noted that with Nintendo eyeing a March 2017 release date, the Nintendo NX could be unveiled in a major launch event later this year.
