'Nintendo Switch' release date news 2016: Leak reveals console will use USB-C for charging; THQ Nordic to release games for device

As fans get closer and closer to the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch for next month, new details about the hybrid console come to light through leaks.

Just recently, an EB Games Australia listing for the accessories set to come with the device found its way online. It was already taken down but many managed to get a screenshot of it.

One of the Nintendo Switch peripherals happens to be what was described in the listing as an "extra-long 3M charging cable." It was indicated that USB-A to USB-C ports will be compatible.

Before this leak, there have also been reports that there are prototypes of the Nintendo Switch that are making use of the USB-C to juice up.

This will mark a massive change for Nintendo. As ArsTechnica points out, the company uses proprietary charging ports and A/C adapters in keeping the lights on for its consoles.

In fact, Nintendo stuck with the same charging port for the Nintendo DSi from 2009 to the latest, which is the Nintendo 3DS XL.

Despite the surprising change, using USB-C on the Nintendo Switch will make sense from both business and competence standpoints. For starters, this option will be more accessible and cheaper.

Also, the abovementioned site says that the USB-C can handle charging up such type of console, even faster than it could handhelds from Nintendo.

In other news, the game catalog for the Nintendo Switch keeps getting bigger with developer THQ Nordic working on a couple of titles for the console.

"We are excited for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo's new platform, and already have two other projects in development for it," THQ Nordic CEO Lars Wingefors said as quoted by Digital Spy, but did not elaborate on what titles.

Some of its franchises include "Darksiders," "Red Faction" and "SpellForce." They have also acquired rights to "Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy," "War Leaders: Clash of Nations" and "Legends of War" so it could be any of those.

The Nintendo Switch is said to be released in March, but Nintendo will show a bit more of the console in January.
