Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 release date update: Company unable to meet the high demand; Prices vary per retailer?
The release of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 has certainly lived up to its expectations. Both GPUS have been making a lot of noise even before they hit the market. According to the latest reports, the demand for both GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 has been so high that stocks have sold out anywhere.
The popularity of both GPUs was certainly expected by several tech observers. According to a report by PC Advisor UK, the reason why the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 are so popular among tech freaks is because of its amazing specs and performance. According to the publication, both video cards are better than the GTX 970, 980 and 980ti. The specs and features of both GPUs have also become more valuable due to the emerging market of virtual reality or VR.
Meanwhile, it was predicted by tech experts before the release of both GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 that their prices will eventually go down. However, with its outstanding sales performance in the market, the prediction may not likely to happen anytime soon.
Nvidia CFO Colette Kress said during a recent investor conference that the company might not be able to meet the high demand of their new GPUs.
"We'll have supply quite shortly with the [add-in-card] market, and those will be here quite shortly. But over the short period of time between the Founders [Edition] cards, we're seeing a lot of unique price points," Kress said during the presser.
CNET reported that the current price of the GTX 1080 is around $599, while the special variant of the GPU with aluminum cooling has a price tag of $699. However, there are reports circulating that some retailers are selling the special version at a whopping $899.
Despite its high price, industry experts are saying that the GTX 1080 is still the best GPU hardware in the market today.
