For fans of the Oklahoma City Thunder, this summer has not been a kind one. One of their best players left for a rival team, and some of their key pieces are no longer with the team.

At the moment, they only have Russell Westbrook as their superstar, and they have now dropped off from being a strong contender to simply being a team hoping to make the playoffs.

However, to give credit where it is due, the Thunder have not decided to hang it up, and instead, they are fighting to try and keep the team afloat.

Kevin Durant is now with the Golden State Warriors, and Serge Ibaka has been traded to the Orlando Magic, however, the Thunder have acquired pieces as well that could help them in the long run.

Most recently, reports have surfaced that they picked up Joffrey Lauvergne from the Denver Nuggets who may add to their already deep frontline.

This may be a very questionable move for the Thunder on paper as they have a lot of big men in the line-up led by Enes Kanter and Steve Adams, and it seems that Lauvergne will find himself on the bench behind the "Stache brothers."

Entering his third season in the league, Lauvergne averages 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds while playing under 16 minutes a game.

News OK gave two possibilities on why Lauvergne was sent to the Thunder. The publication lists the possibility of Mitch McGary going out and Kanter possibly being on the trading block.

For the first point, McGary has failed to live up to the expectations that were set on him. He has had a lot of battles outside the court concerning the use various prohibited drugs, and it seems like the Thunder have called an end to their relationship.

On the other hand, it may be also a move that is due to Kanter being on his way out. Kanter is a great piece to the team, but he is getting paid a lot and has yet to improve on the defensive end. OKC may be trying their luck with Lauvergne as they try to get a few more assets in exchange for Kanter.
