'Outlander' season 3 cast news, spoilers: César Domboy cast as adult Fergus
Starz continue to fill in pivotal roles for the upcoming third season of historical romance drama TV series "Outlander," and French actor César Domboy is one of the latest ones to join the cast.
Domboy is taking on the role of a grown-up Fergus, the pickpocketing boy taken in by Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) in the show's second season. French actor Romann Berrux played the role in season 2.
Domboy is set to take over the role of Jamie and Claire's adopted son when the "Outlander" storyline jumps two decades into the future in season 3.
Based on the official character description from Starz, the adult Fergus is "a charming, devilishly handsome man with a strong sense of loyalty and decorum, despite his unconventional upbringing."
"He is the ultimate romantic, wearing his heart on his sleeve and falling in and out of love easily," the description reads. "However, Fergus' devotion to Jamie has never wavered, making the Frenchman an integral part of the Fraser clan. Still, his debonair demeanor masks a longing for a lasting love and a permanent sense of belonging."
Prior to his casting in "Outlander," Domboy appeared in the Robert Zemeckis film "The Walk" (2015), the French romantic comedy "Up For Love" (2016), and the TV series "The Borgias."
Previously, Entertainment Weekly revealed that the "Outlander" season 3 ensemble will include Scottish actor John Bell, in the role of Jamie's nephew, and English actor Wil Johnson, as Claire's good friend Joe Abernathy.
Bell, who played the role of Bain in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" (2013) and "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" (2014), has been cast in "Outlander" season 3 as the young Ian Murray. He is described as a tall and gangly boy with a kind heart and a stubborn streak. He is said to have taken his adventurous nature from his uncle Jamie.
Meanwhile, Johnson will appear in the Claire scenes from 1960s Boston. Described as intelligent and charismatic, with a wry sense of humor, Abernathy is Claire's fellow doctor-in-training and loyal confidante. They are said to have met in medical school.
Johnson has had notable roles in the British dramas "Cracker" and "Waterloo Road."
"Outlander" season 3 will debut in 2017 on Starz. The period drama is currently in production in Scotland.
