'Overwatch: First Strike' release date, news and updates: Blizzard decides to cancel the project
Blizzard has met great success with the release of "Overwatch," and a lot of fans were eager for the graphic novel, "Overwatch: First Strike" which will explore the origins of Overwatch during the Omni Crisis. The bad news is that the developers have chosen to cancel the release of the comic, so fans may not be able to get their hands on "First Strike" after all.
In an open letter posted on the Battle.net forum, the lead writer of the game, Michael Chu, had this to say about the cancellation of "First Strike": "We have decided to cancel the release of the 'Overwatch: First Strike' graphic novel. While we are grateful to the team for the fantastic work they put into it, we've ultimately decided to take the story in a different direction."
He went on to elaborate that the concept for "First Strike" was thought back in the early days of the game's development, but since the people behind the project decided to bring the game in a different direction, the initial plans of the comic had to be scrapped.
Chu, however, said that they haven't given up on the story, and though it may not be coming soon, it will find its way to fans eventually.
Though the comic was delayed, fans can still look forward to playing the actual game. "Overwatch: Origins Edition" is on a Black Friday Sale right now. Though the game originally cost $59.99, the sale cuts off 40 percent from the total price, making it worth $34.99. This is even cheaper than the standard edition which costs $39.99.
Anyone who wants to purchase the "Origins Edition" should buy it soon, since the discount will only be in effect until Wednesday, Nov. 28.
