'Overwatch' news: Blizzard Korea takes action against hackers; Winston and Roadhog changes to be included in next patch
Blizzard Korea is making policy changes for "Overwatch" to combat widespread hacking problems in the game.
Through a post in the Korean Battle.net forum, a Blizzard representative shared the measures that will be taken to make it more difficult for cheaters to get away with what they're doing. "'Play nice; play fair; is one of the core values that Blizzard will continue to emphasize," a translated version of Blizzard's statement reads. The developer went on to say that they are doing everything they can to "keep a fair gaming environment" by finding ways to stop "nuking" and cheaters who ruin the overall gaming experience.
The said measures include taking legal action against users responsible for sharing or creating hacking tools, which have become common among the Korean internet cafe (aka PC bang) scene. These types of software enable players to break the rules and "nuke" others by launching a DDoS attack against an opponent to stop them from winning.
In other related news, Blizzard has unveiled plans to tweak fan-favorite characters Winston and Roadhog. The two characters have been rebalanced, and the changes will be added in the next patch. The developer addressed Winston's issue of being susceptible to critical hits because of his huge head, while Roadhog's hook has been made less powerful.
While the power of Roadhog's hook was decreased, Blizzard improved his weapon. "The Roadhog changes overall reduce the power of his hook a bit, but his gun is now more effective when not using the hook," the developer explained. As for Winston, the decision to change his head hit volume was an effort to put him on the same level as the other characters.
"Winston's head hit volume was just abnormally big, making him take more damage than he otherwise should. This change brings it more in line with other heroes," Blizzard added in a statement.
