'Pacific Rim: Uprising' premiere date, cast news, plot updates: New set images shows John Boyega in a jaeger pilot suit
"Uprising" lead star John Boyega has been captured sporting a jaeger pilot suit on set. Meanwhile, a photo posted on Instagram may have revealed other cast members of "Pacific Rim: Uprising" that haven't been announced yet.
Originally titled "Maelstrom," "Pacific Rim: Uprising" is slated for a February release date, and plot details remain scarce. Apart from the title, the director of the sequel has changed as well.
Guillermo del Toro directed "Pacific Rim," and he was set to direct the sequel as well. However, del Toro recently resigned from the director's chair, and the position was handed to "Daredevil" spearhead Steven S. DeKnight.
Although, it has been confirmed that "Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens" star Boyega will play the lead role for "Uprising." The actor will be playing the son of the original film's Stacker Pentecost, who was portrayed by Idris Elba.
Recent set photos from Blastr reveal Boyega wearing a jaeger pilot suit, and he appears to be struggling to escape from something. Could Boyega be on the run from a Kaiju?
Meanwhile, a photo posted by Dan Mindel might have revealed other cast members that haven't been announced yet.
According to Slashfilm, the photo had the names of Scott Eastwood and Cailee Spaeny, who were already announced to play Lambert and Amara, respectively. The other names that are not yet confirmed include Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman, and Karl Urban.
Urban would be another new addition to the "Pacific Rim" franchise, but the actor has already denied his involvement in the film and, instead, expressed his eagerness to watch the film.
It is anticipated that Kikuchi, Day, and Gorman will confirm their appearances in the sequel since they were already part of the original film. But according to Movieweb, Charlie Hunnam, who played Raleigh Becket, will return to reprise his role.
"Pacific Rim: Uprising" is set to premiere on Feb. 23, 2018.
