'Passengers' release date news update: Chris Pratt says script is best he ever read

"Guardians of the Galaxy" star Chris Pratt teased the upcoming sci-fi thriller "Passengers," saying that the script for the film was possibly the best he has ever read.

In "Passengers," Pratt and "X-Men: Apocalypse" actress Jennifer Lawrence star as two passengers on a spacecraft carrying thousands of people in hibernation pods to a distant planet. For some reason, the two wake up 90 years before schedule and a romance develops as they discover that there is something wrong with the spacecraft.

The two must then work together to save all the other passengers aboard the shuttle. The trailer for the upcoming romance/thriller also insinuates that Jim, Pratt's character, may be hiding a major secret from Aurora (Lawrence).

The Jon Spaihts-penned script for "Passengers" has reportedly been bouncing around Hollywood since at least 2007 before it was finally picked up. Entertainment Weekly notes that Reese Witherspoon and Keanu Reeves were even linked to the project at some point.

In a recent interview on the SiriusXM Town Hall, Pratt revealed that it was Spaihts' script for the sci-fi adventure that drew him to the project.

"I'm really excited for people to see it," the actor said. "It was maybe the best script I had ever read. John Spaihts wrote the script, and it was just so great," he added.

Pratt also shared that going from the wild west filming locations of "The Magnificent Seven," the movie he has been working on prior to "Passengers," to the spick and span sets of the sci-fi thriller took a bit of adjustment.

"I'm still pulling dirt out of places," he teased.

Meanwhile, in 2015, Lawrence told The Hollywood Reporter that an intimate scene between her character and Pratt's was the first "real sex scene" she has ever filmed. She also revealed that she found the whole thing "really weird" and admitted that she had to "get really really drunk" before she could film the scene.

"Everything was done right, it wasn't anybody's fault, nobody did anything wrong, it's just a bizarre experience," she said.

"I knew it was my job, but I couldn't tell my stomach," the actress explained. "That was the most vulnerable I've ever been," she added.

"Passengers," which was directed by "The Imitation Game" director Morten Tyldum, hits theaters Dec. 21.
