PlayStation Plus Free Games January 2017 list now available for subscribers
For the first month of the year, Sony delivers six new titles for PlayStation Plus Free subscribers including a variety of gameplay from titles that demand mind exercise to those that take on the usual survival schematics.
The six games are divided across three Sony platforms under the PlayStation family. For starters, PlayStation 4 (PS4) owners can enjoy two new games in "Day of the Tentacle Remastered" as well as "This War of Mine: The Little Ones." The former is a re-release coupled with modern day improvements of the 1993 LucasArts and Double Fine game of the same name, which is a direct sequel to the 1987 game "Maniac Mansion." Its gameplay follows Bernard Bernoulli and his friends Hoagie and Laverne as they try to defeat the evil sentient named Purple Tentacle by solving various puzzles and wandering through different periods of history. Meanwhile, the latter is also some form of a rehash ported to PlayStation 4 as well as Xbox One of the 2014 game called "This War of Mine." It takes on a survival-themed strategic mechanics in which a player takes control of a group of civilian survivors during a conflict in the fictional city of Pogoren , Graznavia.
Moving to PlayStation 3, "Blazerush" opens the list. It is a top-down vehicular combat title from Targem Games. Released in 2013, the game takes on an arcade type of scheme in which players compete with each other in various themed tracks. "The Swindle" joins the duo of games for PS3, which is a stealth action video game first released in 2015. Its gameplay tackles a group of conniving thieves wreaking havoc across a steampunk version of London.
Much like the other consoles, PlayStation Vita also gets double releases starting with "Azkend 2," which is a match 3 puzzle adventure game with a gameplay similar to "Bejeweled." Last from the monthly bunch and for the console is "Titan Souls" from British publisher Acid Nerve. It is an action-adventure game that incorporates some supernatural flavor throughout the gameplay. The main goal of a player is to defeat the 19 nineteen monsters called "Titans" through a successful hit.
As usual, this month's loot is received with mixed reactions by subscribers although a lot of them are leaning toward being open to trying out these titles. The minority meanwhile calls for triple-A releases or even just mixing a couple every month in the bunch instead of rolling out mostly indie games.
