Alexander Mahone (William Fichtner), the FBI agent who eventually became Michael's (Wentworth Miller) ally in the original run of "Prison Break," might not be back for the upcoming reboot.

While the fifth season revival of the popular Fox drama is just a few months away, there are still plenty of unanswered questions regarding which characters/actors will be back for the new season.

According to Movie News Guide, while Mahone was one of the main characters in seasons two to four of "Prison Break," he probably won't be around in the new season, which will be set in Morocco, with Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) and Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) attempting to get Michael out from behind bars.

While Fox has yet to confirm whether or not Fichtner will be back in season 5, a source has allegedly revealed that the actor won't be appearing in the upcoming "Prison Break" revival.

In the show's original run, Mahone was a breakout character from season 2 who started off as a federal agent tasked with tracking down and capturing the fugitives. He later ended up in prison and became a friend to Michael and his crew. The fan favorite character even turned down the chance to return to the FBI, not wanting to sell out the Scofield brothers.

Fichtner was originally intended to appear only in seasons two and three, but is said to have been persuaded to return for the show's fourth season.

It now appears that he hasn't been convinced to return for "Prison Break" season 5.

But though Mahone may not be in the new season, it has been confirmed that most of the show's beloved secondary characters will be joining the revival cast.

Robert Knepper will reprise his role as T-Bag, Amaury Nolasco will be back as Sucre, and Rockmond Dunbar will return as C-Note.

The fifth season will also include a slew of new faces, including Mark Feuerstein as Scott, Sara's husband, Inbar Lavi as Sheba, Lincoln's love interest, and Rick Yune as Ja, an expert identity thief.

"Prison Break" season 5 is expected to debut in early 2017 on Fox.
