Project Scorpio specs, price, release date: Xbox head teases upcoming premium console
Xbox head Phil Spencer recently teased a few important details about the upcoming Microsoft Project Scorpio. Although the company has yet to reveal everything about the console, Spencer announced that Project Scorpio will be among the top tier devices in the market.
"Scorpio will be a premium console. It will cost more than S, obviously, that's how we're building it," Spencer tells LevelUp.Com. "We haven't announced price points for Scorpio yet, but I want to make sure the investments that we're putting into the product of Scorpio meets the demands of the higher end customer, and that will be a higher price," he adds.
Though Project Scorpio is a premium console, Spencer believes that they have a pretty strong market for it. He pointed out that their potential customers are those who want "the most that they can get from a console."
On the other hand, a good number of customers are still buying devices that suit their budget. Even though the latest Xbox One S already launched, there are still those who prefer the cheaper original version.
Aside from teasing their forthcoming premium gaming console, the head of Xbox announced that the Xbox One S will eventually become the most affordable console developed by Microsoft. IBTimes suspects that the tech company might be reducing the price once Project Scorpio launches in the fall of 2017.
When it comes to the gaming console business, Sony and Microsoft are now trying to release upgraded versions of a particular device within a given time period, allowing them to produce both an affordable version and a premium unit.
The 500 GB Xbox One S starts at $299, while the 2 TB unit costs $399. According to Gamepur, Project Scorpio might start at $399. A Project Scorpio console with a larger storage capacity will cost more.
