'Rainbow Six Siege' DLC release date news: Ubisoft announces Year 2 content

"Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege" was released in December 2015 with four downloadable content packs arriving in 2016. Now, game developer Ubisoft has announced that more content will be arriving next year.

With Ubisoft revealing its Year 2 roadmap, players are given a sneak peek at what is to come for the first-person shooter video game. According to the official website, there will be four new maps featuring the countries Spain, Hong Kong, Poland, and South Korea. Players will receive one free map and two operators each season, as well as access to eight exclusive headgears, eight unique uniforms, an R6 carbon charm, and 600 R6 credits.

While the first Year 2 DLC is not expected until next year, those who avail of the Year 2 Season Pass any time until Feb. 7, 2017 will instantly receive a free Obsidian Weapon Skin. Meanwhile, for longtime players who availed of the Year 1 Season Pass, they will receive additional 600 R6 credits. The Year 2 Season Pass is priced at $29.99.

For those who have yet to purchase "Rainbow Six Siege," now is the best time to do so as Ubisoft has introduced two new options: the Year 2 Gold Edition ($79.99) and the Year 2 Complete Edition ($99.99). Both come with the base game and the Year 2 Season Pass. There are also additional perks like a10 percent discount in the in-game shop, a 5 percent Renown boost to unlock in-game content faster, additional daily challenges, and 600 R6 credits. The Complete Edition also comes with all of the Year 1 operators.

The former is now available to purchase for PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PC and on Dec. 6 for Xbox One. The latter can now be purchased for PC and Xbox One. Availability for PS4 will be announced at a later date.

More details about the Year 2 DLC will be announced during the Rainbow Six Siege Invitational scheduled on Feb. 3 to 5, 2017.
