'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date, latest news: Long-awaited trailer released; sequel coming in fall 2017
Much to the delight of "Red Dead" fans all over, Rockstar unexpectedly dropped the first teaser trailer for "Red Dead Redemption 2" on Thursday, Oct. 20.
Fans of "Red Dead Redemption," the open world action/adventure video game Rockstar released in 2010, have been waiting six long years for the upcoming sequel. While Rockstar Games, the "Red Dead" series publisher, and Take-Two Interactive, the distributor, have stayed remarkably silent about a possible sequel all this time, fans have nonetheless stayed optimistic about a "Red Dead Redemption 2" release. The original game was, after all, both a financial and a critical success.
"Red Dead Redemption" was the follow-up to the 2004 video game "Red Dead Revolver." Like "Red Dead Redemption," "Red Dead Revolver" was also well-received by both gamers and critics.
While the teaser for "Red Dead Redemption 2" didn't reveal much about the upcoming game, fans have nonetheless gotten excited over the sequel's graphics and Old West setting.
"Developed by the creators of 'Grand Theft Auto V' and 'Red Dead Redemption,' 'Red Dead Redemption 2' is an epic tale of life in America's unforgiving heartland," Rockstar said in the official description of the sequel. "The game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand-new online multiplayer experience," it continued.
"Red Dead Redemption 2" will be released for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. It will feature single-player and online multiplayer components.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the upcoming title was "hand crafted to take full advantage of PS4." Sony also announced that PS4 players will get first access to earn exclusive online content in the world of "Red Dead Redemption 2." The company also confirmed that "Red Dead Redemption" will soon be made available on PlayStation Now.
Rockstar has confirmed that "Red Dead Redemption 2" will be in stores in fall 2017. No exact release date has been announced.
