'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date, news, rumors: Next 'Red Dead' title will be a prequel

After several months of speculation, Rockstar Games finally confirmed that the much-awaited "Red Dead Redemption 2" is already in the works, and the successful game studio already set a target release of the game title for next year. So far, little details have been known about the contents of the next "Red Dead" title, with some rumors suggesting that the game will be a prequel to 2010's hit Western-themed shooter video game.

As reported by Polygon, the "Red Dead Redemption 2" will be released worldwide sometime in Fall 2017. The game will be playable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Rockstar Games described the upcoming game as "an epic tale of life in America's unforgiving heartland, the game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience." 

Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser officially announced the "Red Dead Redemption 2" in a new post on the game studio's website, ending the doubts that the highly popular "Red Dead" series will have a follow-up game released soon.

"With Red Dead Redemption 2, the team is working hard to push forward our vision for interactive entertainment in a truly living world," said Houser. "We hope to deliver players an epic experience that builds upon everything we've learned making games." 

The post also revealed that the official trailer for the "Red Dead Redemption 2" will be released on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. ET. The trailer may finally reveal the storyline of the upcoming game. For now, it is rumored that the follow-up game to "Red Dead Redemption" will be a prequel, The Verge reported.

Earlier this week, Rockstar has regularly posted a few teasers suggesting the arrival of a new "Red Dead" game title. Last Sunday, Rockstar's Twitter page featured a picture of the "Red Dead Redemption" logo, making the fans hyped up. The following day, Rockstar posted a seemingly "Red Dead Redemption" poster with seven silhouettes of cowboy characters on a blood red background.
