'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date, news & update: PC version coming, analyst says
While the upcoming "Red Dead Redemption 2" is currently only expected for the PS4 and the Xbox One, video game and digital media analyst Michael Pachter believes that it will also eventually be released for the PC.
Pachter recently spoke to GamingBolt and said that a PC version of the highly anticipated open world action/adventure video game sequel is a sure thing but that it will come much later. According to Pachter, the staggered release is typical of Rockstar Games.
"The key words here are right now," he told the outlet. He then compared the "Red Dead Redemption 2" release to that of "Grand Theft Auto 5," which was initially only made available for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Nearly three years after that, Rockstar announced that the popular video game will also be getting PS4 and Xbox One versions. Several months later, it was also announced for the PC.
"So they have a history of bleeding out information about their games, and credit to them, it works," Pachter said. "It keeps fans interested in their games."
The Wedbush Securities analyst also pointed out that the "Red Dead Redemption 2" trailer came out the week before the "Titanfall 2" launch and just a day before the "Battlefield 1" release.
"[T]hey're smart," Pachter noted. "They've diverted the conversation to them," he added.
Fans were indeed taken by surprise when the "Red Dead Redemption 2" trailer dropped unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 20. Fans of "Red Dead Redemption," which came out in 2010, had been waiting many years for news of a possible sequel but Rockstar Games kept mum until, at last, the sequel was confirmed with its first teaser trailer.
While the "Red Dead Redemption 2" promo didn't reveal much in terms of the sequel's characters and storyline, it did give a satisfying peek into the game's stunning graphics.
"Developed by the creators of 'Grand Theft Auto V' and 'Red Dead Redemption,' 'Red Dead Redemption 2' is an epic tale of life in America's unforgiving heartland," Rockstar said about the sequel. "The game's vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience," it continued.
"Red Dead Redemption 2" will be in stores in fall 2017. No exact release date has been announced.
