'Rick and Morty' season 3 news: Adult Swim sneakily drops an animated clip for the upcoming installment of the series

Following the kerfuffle on social media the sent co-creator Dan Harmon in a Twitter frenzy over hecklers, Adult Swim quietly releases the first look on the much-anticipated debut of "Rick and Morty" season 3.

During this week's Adult Swim "Development Meeting" live streaming event, Spencer Rothbell (Clarence) and hosts Walter and Cam delivered an official animation clip from the upcoming iteration of the cartoons. The sneak peek starts with a shot of Morty's high school with him listening to Jessica and her girl friends during a hush-hush conversation. When he finally decides to chime in upon knowing that she is already single, Rick drags him until the scene suddenly pans to an intergalactic dogfight as their ship begins to be chased by extraterrestrial creatures. While the excitement unravels, the duo looks unhappy and obviously terrified of the situation.

The hosts did not reveal what episode in the new installment the clip was mined from, but if it is any indication, Rick and Morty may be suffering from adventure-fatigue. It would be interesting to see how that will turn out for the rest of the story arc of season 3.

Aside from the snippet of the two, no other information was given during the occasion. The video in itself does not divulge major story points about Rick not spending that much time in prison. Harmon has previously revealed that they do not have plans to milk the situation with the mad scientist behind bars and that things will be back to normal quickly.

Despite still not knowing when "Rick and Morty" season 3 will eventually don the Adult Swim waves, the promise that the outing will more likely be the best in its history says a lot.

I always like to underpromise and overdeliver but I do really feel like, the episodes we've got in the hopper are some of the best we've ever done, I think," co-creator Justin Roiland excitedly gushed earlier this year. "It's always surprising to see what people react to and what episodes are people's favorites and stuff because we can never predict that internally but we've got some great stuff this season that we're really, really excited about," he further went on to say.
